Research & Development :
Barcol-Air is dedicated to implementing highest thermal comfort standards and lowest energy consumption in all its projects. This requires intensive research & development. In the past years one major point of focus has been the usage of the building mass as a thermal storage and structural (slab-) cooling. The research was not limited to theoretical design, but also involved practical applications with hands-on testing. The results lead to so-called «Hybrid-Solutions», which employ the thermal mass in the cooling strategy. Alternate cooling sources, such as free-cooling are used at night to remove the heat from the building mass, which was accumulated during the day. In the following morning, the cool mass operates as a first cooling stage, allowing the chiller driven radiant system to start at later point of time, only after a certain temperature is exceeded and thus reducing the total operation time of the chillers. The dynamics of the process were refined to the point in which the system offers a highly efficient alternative to standard chilled ceiling solutions. The Hybrid-Solutions will be available in the US in the near future.
We also offer our R&D services to engineers and architects to develop custom solutions for building
specific challenges.
